Sailing in Sydney!

Today I went sailing!!!!

And yes, still no school for me!

Well, I do have a lecture at 9 buts it's online and recorded. So today I'm going sailing instead!

I found this volunteering spot. That sail and take out elderly people or people with disabilities, and I applied for the role as a skipper. This was a trail to se if I liked it!

When I arrived I met Martin, the guy I had been in contact with.

Here was the crew:

Marting, German guy in his 50s

Meg, Australian gal in her 50-60s

Jane, English gal in her 60-70s

Marcus, Swedish guy in his 20s

The boat

I forgot to take a photo of the actual boat, but I had this video of a guy wiggling his boat into the harbour. He didn't use a motor, but instead shook it back and forth to generate speed, which was fun to see, because the boat is quite big but very lightweight. It weighs about a tonne. So not the same boat, but this is representative of the boat we were in.

It was about a 2h trip

Through there you would exit out into the ocean. But here is where we turned around to go back in.

That's Parsley beach that I really want to go to! See the small bridge?

Recognise the boat?

I saw multiple IFs (the boat I owned). Which was crazy to me because they are (were) produced in Sweden. Now the Norwegian guy who bought mine and is transporting it in a trailer doesn't seem as crazy anymore.

Martin was super nice and introduced me to Nick at another sailing club who does races. Nick is going to show me around the harbour and see if anyone wants a skipper, specifically any of the IFs.

Martin mentioned it, which made me reflect. It's really fun how a hobby lets you connect. Mentioning a boat model and immediately you are connected to people and get opportunities. I'm excited for more sailing! Probably going to be that instead of surfing while I'm here.

Will I be doing it again?

When I arrived, he explained that he wanted to train me for about 6 months before I could do the volunteering, so that won't happen. He still wanted to take me out for a ride. If I want to keep doing it it's 20AUD as a non-member concession price, and then I basically just go as a guest. So yes definitely, but not as a volunteer.

Came home at 14

Cooked lunch and watched the recorded lecture.

Then I started on one of the first assignments

In UV 11, even SPF50+ has a hard time

Or rater: I think I should have just been more generous in my application. It just looks like a tan on camera, and in person it's still not too bad, but this is the second burn in these three weeks.

Finishing off the day with a housing event

They had a "Faculty Night", where people who study the same things get together får som snacks, cheese and wine. Didn't take any photos of that.

Then we went and played some pool

And we played 'rundpingis' but with the 8-ball and the cue ball, which you play with your hands. It was quite fun and very easy for people to learn and get a hang of. Also more fast paced. Definitely a good activity if you want yourself kicked out
